What do you hope to learn in this study group?
Please try to make your goals specific, relevant and trackable. As your study group evolves, your goals might change as short-term goals lead to long-term goals. We will take time to refine goals about half-way through the year.
  • Design interactive interdiciplinary games
  • Learn to utilize it efficiently
  • Explore the possibilities of using Smartboard
  • Search for what is already available/created
  • View Smartboard demonstration videos
  • Use the Smartboard for curriculuar instruction

These are great goals. There is definitely a lot out there already - I've found some really cool ideas through my searching and I'm sure you will too. I've started compiling resources on this wiki. There are two links under the Tech Integration heading on the left navigation bar. The first is more about how to use/operate the board; the second is places to go for integration ideas. If you guys find more good stuff, feel free to add! That is what is so cool about wikis...as members, you can all edit/add text.
What resources can you identify to help you reach these goals?
Human resources are an option but not the only option.

  • Smartboard software/training videos, play around with the software
  • Us: share projects and tools we've developed
  • Kristen Sanchez, other faculty with experience
  • IU resources?
  • Schedule time to observe each other
Let me know how I can help you, in general but also with setting up more time for sharing and observing. The IU is offering just ONE SMART training this year and it's already full. :(

OCTOBER MEETING: We learned from each other
We shared things we have learned or created in Smart Notebook and ways we use the Smart Board in our daily teaching:
  • Using the magic pen to magnify, highlight, mark with disappearing ink
  • Converting PDF to Smart notebook file, saving Investigations pages from CD to Smart notebook file
  • Creating interactive games...vortex for example
  • We tried to change writing to type text...but could not find how....????
  • Shared items found in Gallery.....handwriting paper...Fundations letter tiles
  • Demonstrated how to group separate objects to move as one (built a word with letter tiles, then grouped it and moved it as one word)
  • How to split screen to show two things at once
  • Shared a website: www.starfall.com for interactive reading games/activities

MARCH MEETING:
We searched the SMART Exchange for topics related to our individual areas of curriculum.

APRIL MEETING: We shared interdisciplinary units using technology and then spent some individual time exploring the Gallery, tool kit, and Smart Exchange.

MAY MEETING:
